I recently wrote this comment on a friend's blog:
"I remember the first song I recognized. Two days after the turn-on I went to this store that had a self-playing piano playing the same song over and over. I've not really "heard" a song since I was 6 years old, so when I recognized the tune from my childhood days, I was totally blown away. It was the theme song to "The Flinstones", something I watched as a child. I cried! It was sooo amazing."
Although I have been rather jaded by the whole cochlear implant thing lately because of my persistent inability to distinguish voices, remembering moments such as these inspires me to try again, try harder. Maybe today, something will "click" in my brain that will finally make sense of all the vocal mayhem, and I'll actually want to listen to a conversation instead of tuning out in despair.
Friday
The Flintstones.
